Installing a tongue box

I need some advice on how to install this box so that the trailer crank does not interfere with the key or latch on the box.

Obtaining a different box is not an option.

If you want to watch the minute video for my explanation, it's in my Instagram (@MittenMitsie). I couldn't upload a video on here.

Here's a link to the video...

Thank you for any help and advice.

(Also, I can't figure out why my photos come in sideways or how to change that)

Re photos... Take your photos in landscape orientation (shutter button on right). Crop as needed. The forum software is not able to process the orientation data from mobile devices.

Can you shift the box a little to the side for the latch to clear the jack. Or shorten that little bit of the crank shaft that is sticking out. Or do a little cutting and fabricating to move the jack forward enough to clear the box latch.

I would suggest you replace the jack, I'm not big on automatic stuff like an awning for example but adding the automatic tongue jack to our Escape has been a huge bonus to have when setting up and breaking down. If you don't want to go automatic, they make jacks where the crank is it different position.

The problem is not the crank on the jack. The problem is the post blocks the latch to open the tongue box, and the location of the post is determined by the triangular mounting plate. A side-mount, swing-away jack won't work either because the tongue box blocks the frame rail where you would mount it.

Jack-e-Up makes a fitting that allows the jack to be completely removed, which would allow full access to the tongue box when hitched to the tow vehicle, but not when parked unless you use the jack to unhitch and then transfer the tongue to a jack stand or other support when parked. That would be inconvenient, but it would solve the problem.

I cut the bolt flange off the jack lowered the jack until it cleared the problem and welded the flange back on the jack .
Then just cut the leg off the same amount.
Maybe that idea would work for you.

I know they make one for a boat trailer that you use your screw gun to raise and lower it. Eleminating the handle space. Like said before remove the jack and mount it under the frame using large hex head screws with drill point ..
measure how much lower the jack will sit under and see if you can get into the box. Just some food for thought.
PS. Your screw gun can be used on the levelers and on our tandem wheels chalks . )

Remount the box higher it looks like you only need a couple inches.
Use square tubing or c channels. Bolt or weld to the frame then bolt the box to them .

I had the bottom blow out on an aluminum box on I-90 (go figure). Re-welded it and C-channel under it and no problem again.
