king pin to gooseneck conversion

Hello everyone we have a small 5th wheel, we almost sold it because we have been tied down taking care of our elderly parents and haven't used it as much as we would like to. We have discovered that we can and need to take trips to use our Ultra more often. The more that we looked at the pictures the more we fell in love with it all over again and decided to keep it and use it more. We are looking at converting the king pin to a gooseneck connection, all the reviews have been positive. Looking to see if anyone out there has done this conversion and if they have had any issues or not, liked or disliked the change. Thank you in advance.

I helped the buyers of my Jayco make the conversion. It was not hard, but he did say that he had looked at different types of kits.
The torque spec on his was two people on the end of a six foot pipe getting it as tight as possible. It looked like it was working fine as they drove away.

Thank you, we are looking at the Curt CAB-C5G1216 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter and the Curt CAB-16055 above the bed gooseneck trailer hitch for 5th wheel rails.

We did some research and decided to go with the A-3200 Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection - Rail version and the A-3230 Andersen Safety Chains for Ultimate Connection Model Hitches. Watched several YouTube videos for different products and this seemed to be the best fit for our needs.

Ah, I was curious why your sales post disappeared so quickly.

It's a nice looking trailer. I don't seem to find the Ultra brand listed on this site, so maybe it's a new one to all of us here - ?

Thank you, we deleted the sales post as we decided to keep her and use her more often. The Ultra was apparently a model that was made only on a test type basis in 1985 and never went to full production. There are not too many of them out there and we have actually somehow come across two of them. The first one we intended to fix up but never did and sold it last year. This one we found across the country and bought it because it was already fixed up with some minor needs. Of course with any trailer this old there will be things that need to be updated and repaired which of course we have run across. Changing the connection from a regular 5th wheel hitch to a gooseneck hitch will make things a lot easier for us to connect, give us more room between truck and RV and allow it to be a much smoother tow. We are glad that we decided to keep her and now we just need to use her more like we plan to.
