Large crack in Boler roof due to snow load

Hi,

Our Boler sustained a large crack in the roof due to snow load over the winter.

Trying to figure out if it is fixable in any way or if the structure is permanently damaged?

Our Boler sustained a large crack due to snow load over the winter.

Wondering if it is even fixable or it the damage to the structure permanent?

Fiberglass is 100% repairable. Structural repairs are done from the inside, with cosmetic fill and blend on the outside. That means you’ll have to carefully peel back some of the Ensolite. You’ll have to pull that window as well.

If you haven’t done fiberglass before, there’s a beginner’s guide in the thread “You Can Repair Fiberglass.” Type it in the Google search bar and it should pop right up.

For starters I’d brace the section that’s caved in with a 2x4 and a piece of plywood to spread the force. Slowly apply pressure to restore the original roof contour.

We’ve seen way worse!

Scamps have a metal support between the galley base and upper cabinet to improve roof support in that area. That could be something to add going forward. For heavy snow loads, a temporary brace in the middle during winter storage is another option.

Hi Julien
Sorry to hear. Another option - if your Boler is insured - is to make a claim and contact a couple of boat repair businesses that do fiberglass repair for estimates. If you are covered the insurance company may pay or reimburse you funds for the cost of the repair. Many years ago we had damage to the Boler fiberglass, made a claim with the insurance company and they paid for the repair. The Boler was repaired at a boat yard, they did an excellent job and even matched up the faded Boler colour. We were very impressed 😁!

Best of luck on the repairs! Bolers are great trailers! We sold our used Boler many years ago for more than we paid for it and see that the prices have still steadily gone up.

I had quite a sag started on the roof of my bigfoot 13. I used a piece of plywood and 2x4s to support from the inside. Added a 3/8 sheet of plywood to the center of the roof on the outside, riveted to the fiberglass then glassed in the wood on the top.

Here is my post on all the renos

Boler Roof Support and Fibreglass Reinforce

Lots of good references sites on the web and on this site for fibreglass repairs. eg. https://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/...ass-52498.html

Do your research, make a plan and take your time.

Easy to make ceiling jacks when I reinforced my boler roof.
