When we brought home Junior ('72 Compact Jr.) there was a water tank with NO hoses or fittings. I've been trying to put this thing together and FINALLY got all the proper fittings (as proper as possible given no one HAD a hose or fitting that would work with existing tank). I have a tiny bit of leak still on the fill end.
To make it all work I:
- replaced outside filler inlet to match moder standard hose diameters
- carved out old filler neck from tank (NO matching hoses available short unsuitable shrink tubing)
- used hole saw to expand tank hole for compression fitting
- install new neck with compression (plumbers) fitting
- connect tank to filler with modern day flexible hose.
- Watch it leak during first fill
- remove hose
-wrap both fitting ends with teflon tape
- press on new hose
- watch dry fill! WOO HOO!
- Travel 50 miles down the road
- Open TT only to find there's still a relatively minor leak at the fitting/tank connection)
My question, given that the hose is tight and the fitting is as expanded (tight) as it will get: if I use silicone around the base of the fitting (where the water
leaks as it splashes about inside the tank on the road), will it hold with all the jiggling the trailer gets?
