Looking for ideas on awnings

I have a little joe trailer... and would like to add an awning
I was thinking of either a bag awning or a rope pull awning
What say you

In full disclosure I posted a similar question before and my pc crashed so i lost everything

I put a Shady Boy on my daughter's Trillium 1300. It works great, was easy to install, is light, as and not expensive

Are they any awning that slides into a track ( like a rope/pull or mounted on side and rolls up into a bag ..... guess I should google them lol

I removed the ugly track and filled the holes earlier when remodeling it.

i was pretty happy with the FIamma on my Casita, but am even happer with the Carefree on my Escape.

I hated the bag awning that was on my old Starcraft tent trailer

GoBE, made using the same molds as your Little Joe, supplies a Batwing awning as an option. It’s unique in that it wraps around a corner to protect the side and the rear door. Folds into a hard case attached to the trailer much like the Shady Boy. No personal experience but looks interesting. From the GoBE website...

I own a VW Bus and a Trillium 13' Trailer. I use a (Bus Depot) "EZ Awning" It comes in a bag and is easy to set up. Use it on both Camper and Bus. Another good choice is the "Shady Boy"

I would stay away from Rope and pole Awnings.

Installing a Fiamma or Carefree awning would require adding some wooden blocks or similar on the interior walls for support. A bag awning would be easier and more practical.

the carefree, for sure. the fiamma, I found the leg clips on the Casita to be pretty useless and would put the legs on the ground. they fold up inside the awning case when its retracted. so, you'd just need suitable mount points along the top of the trailer. my son put a fiamma on his old Vanagon/Westfalia, and never bothered to mount the foot holder things.

I had the foot holders mounted on the side of my Trillium, but I didn't know how often I was going to use them. Turned out we use them all the time!!
My only complain about our Fiamma is it's quite expensive, and rather fragile. Otherwise, we LOVE it and use it a lot.

I installed the leg clamps on the frame and the shell .
And I think that they are a good way to secure them.
I always worried about the legs when the wind was blowing and if I had not put stakes and ropes down.
The clips hold pretty well for a breeze that I would leave the awning out anyway.
I had to make a shim of PVC carved to make a flat, vertical side for the clip and curved to fit the lower part of the shell. In my case the front leg was mounted on the straight part of the frame extension since I added a few feet of frame when I rebuilt the trailer.

I rebuilt our carefree bag awning on our 17' Boler. The bag and canvas were worn out. I really like it and find it quick and easy to set up.
The type of awning you get depends on you. Some people even use a pop-up canopy as an awning.

Installed a section of Keder rail to the trailer and use a slide-in bag awning from Marti's awnings.

Well, I think you're referring to Bullard's Beach, which I have also been to, but that's just "spelling."

Bullards Beach is located at the southern part of the Oregon Coast, just above California, but you are correct in that that picture is was taken on the Oregon Coast! It was at Fort Stevens, on the northwest corner of the Oregon Coast, just below the Columbia River. (Good eye!)

I’ll throw out another vote for the Shady Boy. I installed one on my Scamp 13 last spring, and I think it’s great. Well designed and constructed.

I also considered several approaches to adding an awning to my Casita. When I bought my Casita, it did not come with the awning because it was destroyed by a windstorm when the previous owners were in Nova Scotia. However, since the brackets for the original Fiamma awaning were firmly in place (after a minor fix), I decided on a “do-it-myself” awning.

I clamped a 10’ length of ½“ conduit to the existing brackets and I use carabiners to “hook” the 10’ side of an 8’ x 10 tarp to the conduit. The most expensive component is the tent poles. The final ingredient is the guy lines. An alternative to the tent poles might be to use painter's extension poles.

Setup & take-down runs 5-7 minutes using a fold-up step stool.

Caution: The carabiners are incorrectly advertised as having enough of an opening to clip over the conduit. NOT. But they are just big enough to slip onto the conduit and then serve as a clip point for a carabiner on the tarp.

Another caution is to get a durable tarp. Most tarps simply disintegrate after a brief period of time. The tarp I got is guaranteed for five years and I would be violently surprised if it doesn't last that long.

Final note: I "bracketed" the carabiners at each end of the conduit with hose clamps so that they don't slide off the conduit or slip over next to the neighboring carabiner.
