Mud flaps and floor rot

My 37 yr. old Burro has a great floor, except for right behind the wheels.
Appears all those years of kicking up road moisture/debris, have taken a toll on this area.
In the process of repairing the areas- not too big, just immediately behind the wheels.
I’ve noticed that some small,13’ trailers come with mud flaps( Trillium).
And some of those trailers have been around for a long time.
Anyone noticed a correlation between mud flaps and lack of rot behind the wheels.
Most discussions center around leaks causing the rot, which is probably the more common cause. But check the flooring underneath behind the wheels and see if there’s a correlation between rot/no mud flaps, and no rot/flaps.

Mud flaps and floor rot

Not on my Scamp, but that hardly counts in the SW... We don’t tow in rain much, and even less in mud.

Scamp does treat the underside of its floors with resin. I’m sure that helps, provided you wash off accumulated mud and gunk promptly.

Good for Scamp!

My Burro is pretty old, and spent it’s life in California.
For all the years ,the rot was surprisingly small, and only the outer 2 or 3 layers of plywood- could have been more from just mechanical attrition of road debris.
I’m purring on flaps just in case, after I repair the areas.
I was under to inspect the frame, just to check for problems when I noticed the areas behind the wheels.
Hope to hear from people with old 13’ trailers to see what they find.
Thanks for reply.
