Need rock guard down!

On my trailer it looks like one shock is shot and the other is not. So the bad one does not hold, and I cannot get the other one to release... so the rock guard is up there cattywampus making the trailer look derelict!

Obviously something needs replacing, but ATM I’d just like the guard to go down!

What is the trick I cannot remember for getting the shock to release???

There is a cap on the side of the mounting hole it looks pear shaped. twisting it counter clockwise should open its locking clip , then pull it away from the mounting point. I bought a pair of tokico Y2505 gas struts. Always buy new even if one of them works. Nothing comes up on Amazon they sell a Y2507. Is it a replacement ??? Measure center of one end mounting hole to the other end center of mounting hole. to compare with the picture shown. Another brand name will work if the length is equal rated at about 25 pounds lift should work I don't know what the Y2505 is rated at but it just lifts the cover.

Kenny, Thank you for the response, and for the information. A friend of mine was able to get the rock guard down for the winter. I don’t think he used the technique you describe above! I am very sure that both struts need to be replaced. I think these are not original ones because I see another hole on each side of the rock guard where previous struts had been attached.

Come next Spring, I have quite a bit of updating to do. A little Bigfoot needs a new battery, probably new propane tanks, a new backsplash, and the window sliders cleaned out and made smooth again. Probably many more things. The poor sweetie has been neglected for the last three years while we dealt with some sad family issues, but I’m anxious to get out in her again.
