They are charging a 30% surcharge for out of state residents.

Says Who? The Nehalem bay website has nothing on that, nor does Reserve America.

I am registered at Reserve America with my Washington address. As an experiment, I tried putting a reservation into my cart and the price increased from $35 per night to $42.

The reservation website does not flag the change, it just appears as you proceed through the registration process.

There's a current thread about the surcharge here on the forum.

I've been to Nehalem Bay. I've camped at Nehalem Bay. I like the place. Can't find the pictures but can assure you the beach, like pit toilets, are very sandy.

It's a bad place to be if a tsunami hits. That and it being popular are the only bad things I can think of.

Also has a spot up the hill if a tsunami warning occurs.
