Hi Everyone!
Hope 2006 brings you all many fun fiberglass adventures.
I repainted the Boler walls last spring and this year I would like to rip off the cupboards and paint the frames for the shelves and sink. They are metal though, so I am hoping to avoid anything that may flake off. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jollean

Jollean, what parts are metal? On all Bolers that I have seen the cupboard frames are fiberglass.

Years ago I painted an old clawfoot bathtub and like Dan mentioned it was painted with Epoxy. It stood up well to daily baths, but nothing harder than skin ever touched the surface. Based on that experience, I'm not sure I'd want to paint a sink in a trailer tho. Is the sink in your Boler enamel or stainless steel or something else?
We may be able to give you better alternatives than paint

Donna your so smart! I re-checked the cupboards and counter and they are likely fiberglass. They look a lot like plastic. Ok same question I guess, what is best used to paint these?

Well I can't take credit... that was Lizbeth, but you can use any paint for fiberglass. Check the labels. Someone mentioned Melamine(?) in an earlier topic. Just make sure the surface is very clean and grease free and scuff the surface lightly. Apply a thin coat and if necessary apply a second.
I think someone has even used Rustoleum, but I can't be positively certain of that.

It wasn't Donna, it was me.
I sanded mine to remove the shine and painted them with Zinsser Perma White paint. http://www.zinsser.com/product_detail.asp?ProductID=35
It's what I used to paint the whole interior, so far so good. I'll try to find a picture to post.

Here is a link to my post about my Boler's new kitchen. It shows a bit of the paint and further down what the kitchen looked like before the redo.

Jackie is also redoing her trailer, check out Remodeling the Kitchen, Nice and Fresh Jackie mentions using white acrylic paint, to lighten it up, and painted the outside of the cabinets with a spray enamel.
Now you have several choices.

Ooops Lizbeth very sorry I am a little all over the map. Thank you to all three of you. Milda, Fred and Nancy!
Ok a few more questions then. I used Zinsser on the inside of the Boler for the walls and although it was good and sticky it is not very shiny or smooth. Did you brush it on? If so do you have paint strokes at all? Anything on top of it?
Also that is one fine kitchen you put together. What did you paint the back splash with to look so nice? Do you have anymore pictures of your unit?
Thanks!

I used small napped rollers on the walls and on the cabinets I used a foam roller. The walls took two coats and the cabinets took three, the sponge roller applied the paint very thin. The result is a fairly smooth finish with a bit of "stippling". I didn't use anything over it.
The backsplash was painted with latex paint from Home Depot to match the countertop....Bear Brand I think.
I've got tons of pictures, they were posted but with the site hack the post went bye-bye. It's far from finished but in the next couple days I'll try to repost some.
