I plan on doing a design on the outside of my trailer and would also like to refresh the outside with a polish. It's been suggested to use mcguires color restorer to bring up the shine. I'm also assuming it will need sanding where I want to paint my design. Should I spot sand or do the color restorer first? Do I need to sand before applying the color restorer? Is it like a buffing? I'm worried the color restorer may affect adhesion, which will be difficult to begin with. Thanks

I'm thinking you're right, paint doesn't stick to wax. But, maybe someone has done exactly what you're talking about and they'll speak up with a definitive answer.

When applying decals to areas that are typically waxed, alcohol (the standard rubbing type, don't waste the good stuff) is recomended as a surface preparation for good adhesion. I would think that a good wipe down with the rubbing alcohol in the intended area should be plenty, then just re-wax everything after the paint has set up nicely.

Fiberglass gel-coats are somewhat porous compared to a lot of painted surfaces, so when free of wax / grease / oil, I would think that paint should stick reasonably well, especially to a more aged surface.
