I have seen a few mentions of it but not the details- is this a good idea and if so what is a good product to use?

Mine is is good shape, what is not in good shape is that tape stuff that is used to cover the seams. On the 84 Scamp that I am redoing I filled all the seams with almond caulk, and it looks pretty good but not perfect. On my 78 I want to take off all of that seam tape and do something else. I am thinking if the ensolite is worth painting, that maybe the caulk and paint will be OK.

I had a terrible case of mildew in my Love Bug so I first washed the ensolite a couple of times with chlorine bleach and then rinsed a couple of times. Next I primed with Kilz primer and then used interior latex paint. If you don't have any mold or mildew, I would use a common primer and then paint with your choise or interior latex paint. I would use a good quality semigloss paint. Cheap paint may not stick as well and the semigloss allows for easier cleanup.

My Love Bug rehab worked out great without any of the mildew or stains coming back. I also used caulk to fill in my cracks in the ensolite and am very pleased with the results.

hello! Hey I did a search for ensolite and the company that makes it still does so. I'll bet that if we emailed them- they would advise us on the best paint for it!!!!!!!!

I have thought about what to do about the seams in our Scamp, and I do l like some of the ideas guys did on here- using plastic strips under the caulk or glue... I'm not that far yet on my work. I'm so distracted and busy with so many things. Plus it's been raining raining here. I want it to stop raining so I can pull the camper out of the garage in the sun and work some more.

Deb, was it one of the companies from the Helpful-Links page: Ensolite or do we need to add the company to this list

You've been busy!

Folks have used several products with general success:

Melamine paint is a popular choice.

I used spray vinyl on my Boler.

If I was doing it again, I'd test the new plastic paints (I used it on my son's Halloween costume with GREAT results).

Like Bob, I used the Kilz as a primer, mainly to make sure the topcoat would adhere really well, I didn't have mold, but it was ugly. Then, I painted with an acrylic EXTERIOR satin. I choose the exterior because of possible temperature changes. It's two years later and I've had zero peeling and it looks fantastic. I painted with a small, sponge roller and was able to get it all done in a few hours.

A few weeks ago, in an effort to freshen up the countertop area, I used a polyurethane floor paint in a semi-gloss on the fiberglass. It's the same paint that I've used successfully on my laundry room floor that looks great after about 5 years. I hope to paint a design on it this week and may clear coat it all depending on how intricate a design I use. When I have my clients walls faux finished, I often add a top clear coat. I prefer that coat to take the bumps and bruises and know that it really does extend the life of the faux finish.

Good luck!

Roy in T O - is this the one you bought?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Boler-Trave...1QQcmdZViewItem

I was watching that on ebay too, even thought about bidding on it to resell but have been using all my spare cash on the Scamp instead!

Please be sure and post some pics as you work on yours, I am dying to see how it comes out!

Yes Jaye,

That's our trailer. Sorry for the delay, just found your question buried in this thread. We are a far cry from getting ready to paint. We are posting the pictures in the thread Our 72 Boler American located in this Forum. A Blog is being created as well. Details to follow when I know what they are.
