Hi,

We bought our first trailer last fall, a 76 beachcomber. The paint on the outside is really dull and tired looking. We were thinking of taking it in to have it repainted. Is this a good idea or will we end up with peeling paint in the future? Any suggestions or ideas would be great as we are new to this whole trailer thing!

Thanx
Jason

Hi Jason,

Are you sure it's been painted or is it the original gel coat on the fiberglass. Depending on what you have (painted or not) your options are quite different.

It's the original finish aside from a small blue stripe around the middle that looks like someone added at some point.

Then there's a 99.9% chance it's gel coat. There is a voluminous amount of information on these forums about cleaning/waxing and restoring gel coat.

here's some (I searched for +wax* +cleaner in the titles only)
Wax, cleaning, etc.

Thanx! Lots of good information in there. Looks like painting is a last resort thing. We'll try some of the cleaners and polishes that other people have recommended.
