This afternoon I took apart the pop-top on the Campster since the wood frame around the lip on the roof was rotten/eaten. I was going to replace the wood but it appears that the slider for the scissors that raise the top has broken nylon wheels that need to be replaced. I fear that these stainless parts were fabricated for this trailer 38 years ago. The folks at Home Depot and Ace didn't offer much encouragement and I checked Northern Tool and JC Whitney this evening. Notta. Also, I might as well replace the springs too since they are pretty funky and beginning to rust. The springs at Home Depot were the right length but didn't have as much tension. Any help sourcing these items would be greatly appreciated! I'm beginning to discover that once I begin one project on the Campster it automatically leads to two more things that need to be addressed!

Lisa, I don't know about the mechanism but I found the springs at Ace hardware, don't know if they were the exact tension but I put one on and it works. (The second is there for a replacement when the other old one breaks.)

If you can't find them let me know and I'll buy a couple and send them to you. I bought them at Ace in Washington.

Question

I have found the exact springs at lowes surprisingly...If you do not have one there I can send a link to a spring wholesaler I also use...The wheels are a harder matter for me because I have a different scissors set up than you, however if you would send me a pic and measurements regarding diameter and width of the wheels hopefully with a pic I have another book that would most likely have it too. If they do I will send links as well...Another good source is in the ad section of the pop up times in the back there are very knowedgable businesses...One I used to remake the poptop...They have hardware experiances to draw from and speak freely when called...Go to thoses persons in the trades or associated trades and you will be surprised how open they are...Since there are upload requirements on this site I include my email.

Harry, you are a godsend! First you teach me about refrigerator's and now this! Incidently, I'm ordering a frig. tomorrow from Discount RV. They don't tax outside of Illinois and are not charging for shipping all this month. I'll check Lowe's for the springs and try to bring a digital camera home tomorrow so I can photograph the slider apparatus with the ruler and measurements.
