I use one, Ches, camping or not, as a backup. I've never had to use it while camping; my solar panel keeps up.
They have small batteries (I think mine is 18AH) so one would not power your microwave for long.

I don't know what the load would be, Ches. It might work for a while, but then you'd need hydro to recharge.
Why in the world would you want to watch TV while camping in Beautiful BC, eh? :conf

I just bought a Xantrex® xPower 600™ Indoor / Outdoor Power Station. Haven't even got it out of the box yet, but it says it will run lights and such for 72 hours straight. we have a large marine battery with a 300 (I think) inverter on it to run our elec chainsaw, and it doesn't need charged until after two or three days of cutting, (probably 3 to 4 hours each day) this station is said to be better then that. so sounds good. :) and it's 110 output :banana
The jump-it I got, wasn't that great. wouldn't jump a car with a totally dead battery. :( don't remember what size I got.

I'll go check tomorrow on the size of that jump-it I've got. I'm not sure where I put it. :conf
You need to get PinconeDone's input. he has one or two of these he uses all the time, or at least keeps close.
Here's where I got that power station, if you want to read up on it.

much better price then buying the inverter and battery one at a time.

Jump it
Bear in mind that these are for jump starting.... so the battery is a high amp short duration type.
That said, it will run your inverter, lights, etc.for hours depending on load, just don't discharge it more then 50%
Charles uses a couple of them for winter camping, when his RV battery his at home for the winter. He also uses the jump it's first for extended stays in the outback.
I bought one back in '96 and used it at work (service station) for 2 years and its still going strong.
I just bought another on a few months ago that has a built in light and air compressor along with a charger and jumpers.
Anymore I don't leave town with out 'em.

jump battery
i've used a jump battery for years. i wouldn't go anywhere without it. i wouldn't count on getting a whole lot of use out of it for everyday needs. with a fresh recharge, i can get about 6-8 hours on my 5" color tv set. i also use it with my laptop and have a solar panel to recharge it. mine will charge in about 3 hours off 12v or 115. it's really great when you need a boost to start a vehicle, which is what they are really designed for.

Dumb question time
Okay, so if these are portable and for jump starting, and one uses them to power stuff, how and when do they get recharged?
