Pro Tector by Clova Mfg, Surrey BC ?

Our 1976 13' Boler came with a floor level device called "proTector". Runs/ran on battery or hardwired. Made by Clova Mfg in Surrey, BC. We're assuming it's a propane detector but can't find any info online about the device or the manufacturer. Does anyone know anything about this device?

Probably a propane detector. Has a limited life; probably five years.
I'd replace with new.

Thanks, Glenn. I figured it was propane — I appreciate the link. Wasn't planning on using this old device but was curious about its history.

Great point Glenn, - limited life.
I follow a few threads for van conversions and I am stunned by the widespread use of Mr. Buddy portable heaters in unvented situations. They all claim to rely on CO detectors for safety. Russian roulette sounds safer. As Glenn pointed out about propane detectors, CO detectors also have a limited life. I think the outer limit is about 10 years. This is important information to share. Fortunately, I believe newer models beep relentlessly at the end of their lives. Older models, maybe not.

I replaced my propane detector a couple months ago.
What I learned from the distributor is that it is good from the date of installation, not from date of manufacture. Once hooked up to electricity, the clock starts.

That's correct because the metal oxide material inside the detector is heated by an electrical current, and the oxide slowly deteriorates over time once power is applied. If you don't install it, it doesn't deteriorate.

Co beeping — oh, yes. They do go on. And on. And on. Too bad propane detectors don't beep too. Would make people change them and not assume they're still working years later.
