my new three way fridge does require 12vdc to operate, there is a gas solenoid, and a digital control panel, a lot of 3 way fridges require power to operate on gas. the 3 way I took out did not, and there are still a few around that don't
If the shell is in good condition, there are places that will rebuild or custom build a cooling section for an older unit.

Most need 12V to open the gas solenoid that controls propane flow.

If you mean most built in the last couple of years than I might agree.. but the point made a few times here is that many do not. An absorption fridge that requires no electric at all (such as my 2015 model Dometic 2410) is great to have for extended boondocking or emergency use.

Ah, then yours must not have the reignitor which does require a battery connection.

true.
And that might be a nice feature if you have a fridge that needs to have the flame restarted because it blows out.. but I don't think mine have ever gone out, even on the highway.
Oh no! I just mentioned that I (sometimes) use my fridge on propane when going down the road.. get ready for the dire warnings!
Oh no, again... I just made a comment implying that there is no risk when using a propane fridge on the highways.
So for the record, IMHO there is minimal risk, and when on the road I avoid using the fridge on propane when I can, and I accept what I am sure is a very small risk when I can't.

We would get along well if we ever met.
Although I must admit I run my tires at about half the maximum sidewall pressure and I think it's just fine. Because I'm a MADMAN!
