It's time for me to replace the old single-stage
propane regulator and hose, both of which are of unknown but significant age.
On my trailer the regulator is mounted on the tank (well, it has the POL fitting that screws directly onto the tank) and there is a rubber hose that connects the output of the regulator to the trailer. This means the rubber hose is carrying only low-pressure gas.
Generally speaking, I like the idea of subjecting rubber hoses to low, not high pressure.
However, I have seen pictures of some modern trailers (e.g. Escape) that have the regulator mounted on the trailer with a rubber hose running from the tank(s) to the regulator. This seems strange to me because it means the rubber hose is carrying the full pressure, which on a hot day can be well over 100psi. What is the advantage of mounting the regulator on the trailer instead of on the tank?
Oh, and the reason I need to understand the advantages of each system before ordering the regulator is that for a tank-mounted regulator a horizontal regulator would work best on my trailer, while for a trailer-mounted regulator, a vertical regulator would be better.
Thanks!
