I want to replace the aged gold or silver tape on the sides of my Campster. But I'm not sure what to use... has anyone put stripes on their trailer with tape (I don't want to do it by painting them on) and if so, what did you use, and how has it held up?

I used this company when my husband and I re-striped his 97 Jeep Wrangler....the installation was easy and it updated the look!

Racing stripes?

Sounds like a cool idea. FiberglassRV.com sanctioned Scamp racing.

I can see many possibilities. For example:

How about a downhill race without a tow vehicle attached or brakes operational. A steerable front jack should be allowed and a seat mounted where the propane bottles normally mount.

Perhaps an extra five points could be given to the Scamp with the raciest stripe artistry!

For the upper stripes around the middle of the trailer, I went to [b]West Marine and got Bootstripe Tape. They've been on for 3 years now and still look as good as when I first installed them. The 3" wide composite stripe is made up of 1" Red top, 1" white middle, 1" red bottom, plus 1/4" red centered over the middle white.

They also carry Multi-color Stripe Tape.

I went to Marshall's Industrial Hardware and got 2" Reflective Tape for the bottom stripe, and laid a 1/4" white stripe centered over it.

I worked in a sign and graphics shop years ago and we did flames, stripes, lettering, you name it. And on everything from planes, boats, trucks and even signs. Any sign shop can cut the lines and apply it properly if you are concerned with your DIY abilities. I would guess $30 to $60 once around.

So I have the old stripes, which are worn through in places. I suppose I have to remove them and can't apply new ones right on top? Would I have to remove the adhesive too?

If you want a smooth finish, you do have to remove the old stuff; all of it. The stripe tape is very thin and any imperfection beneath it will telegraph right through.

The sign/graphics place could do this (removal) for you faster n neeter than you could.

You can do it yourself if you're concerned about saving bux!!
