Radio Speaker

Hi All
I just installed a am-fm radio in my boler. It comes with 2 speakers. Problem--Speakers have a heavy Buzz in them. Anyone with idea as to problem advice would be appreciated:O

Buzzy speakers

I had that problem once in my car. The connections on the speaker had been done badly so there was a small short between one of them and ground. Wasn't a problem at low volume - but when I kicked in the power amp it started buzzing big-time.

You could also look for general grounding problems.

That would be the first thing I'd look for.

Buzz

I would guess that the 12v dc you are using has some ac ripple in it from the converter. Your boler probably has one of the older converters that do not filter the dc like my Burro.
Try the radio from just the battery alone and see if the buzz is gone.
If so you will have to put in some kind of filter. The battery will act as a limited filter

Bear in mind that flourescent lights will always cause a buzz especially on the am band, because they can radiate radio frequencies.

Did what you said. Tied directly to battery, and all works great.Question--You mentioned a filter,OK i understand that, but why can't I just leave it as is from battery.
Thanks for your great info, much appreciated.:cblob

Chester,
Sure, you can leave it where it is, just don't forget to turn it off when you leave the camper. When the battery is charging from the converter you may or may not have the ac hum. If not then the battery is doing the filtering and all is well.

Chester, take a close look at the fuses on your converter; some of the Magnateks have some of the fuses being filtered by the battery for just that reason.

If you are connected directlyto the battery, be sure you have a fuse in the line.

Audio noise filters can be purchased at Radio Shack and even WalMart in automotive stereo area.
