rangetop ventline fan not working

Had my 98 Casita for a couple of weeks now and when I got it the ventline stove fan would not run. The light works fine though.
Since I'm home today, I went out to take a look at it.
I removed the 8x8 aluminum screen to expose the fan. After removing a couple of mud dobber nests from the aluminum tray wall, I try the fan.
It works but after shutting it off, it will not start up unless I give the fan a little touch of the blade.
I tried turning it off again and it wont start up unless the blade is either still rotating or unless after it has stopped completely, I even slightly move it before turning it on.
What can be the problem?

Sounds like it got hot because it was jammed and overheated something. If it's just a bearing you might be able to apply a bit of oil and get it going on it's own.

Or it might be time for a new motor. Try finding a number on it and using Google to find a replacement.

Try cheap first. A bit of oil on the shaft may be all it takes. I'm kinda one of those folks that works up to the expensive stuff. YMMV

tried to remove the motor to oil but 1 of the 2 sheet metal screws holding the motor onto it's mount stripped Might try to get a replacement of it from local hardware then I will drill it out.

Fan motors have very little starting torque so it does not take much to stop the fan from turning I would do as Donna suggested clean the fan and oil the fan motor
