Rear TV shelf

Does anyone have the rear TV shelf installed? Do you find that the long bracket that connects to the middle of the board gets in the way when sleeping? What happens to that long bracket when you remove the shelf?

I have the corner TV shelf, which is where I put my "Wally" DishTV box that I bring from home when we travel. I keep it set up all the time, and we have a full-time full mattress across the back of the trailer. I haven't had any problems with it being in the way of anything in close to 10 years that I've had it set up. I'm 6'2" and I use the full length of the bed, and it doesn't interfere with my "foot room" while sleeping.

Ours TV shelf stays up all the time. When traveling the TV lays on the bed. We have a Southern Mattress so it's a permanent bed. I did rig up a bungee from the wall bracket for the support leg up to where it attaches to the shelf so it can't bounce apart.

With the light weight TVs now available and the numerous mounting brackets available is the shelf even nessassary.I mounted a swing out tv mount right to the side of the window frame in my trailer and it is very sturdy and works great.

I'm with Mike. LED tv / built in DVD player mounted to the side of the closet with IKEA tv mount. Absolutely no issues in 2 years.

So how would you guys install a swing mount in a Casita? And with a TV shelf already there, is it worth the trouble.

With the shelf already there, it may not be worth the effort to fabricate a vertical support to mount the tv bracket. It was easy to do in the Trillium with the side of the closet. Is there an interior wall in the Casita where you could mount the tv bracket?

No interior wall in my Casita where I would want a TV. Original post about a Casita TV shelf went off track to other brands that are different in design. I could do a wall mount in my Uhaul, but I'm a big believer in the leverage principle and don't like the idea of weight hanging on what is a flimsy wall in a trailer that does not ride good on a bumpy road. I'm staying with the TV laying on the bed when traveling in all my campers. Good ideas for other brand trailers though so well worth the posts. Any reinforcement used on the back side of those wall mounts?

Point taken Bob and yes reinforced inside of the closet where the tv mount is.

Clayton, thanks for the picture. Here's an example of sometimes it's good getting slightly off topic as it brought up the idea of reinforcement when adding weight where it may not have been designed to be. I like your use of the fender washers and lock nuts, and most of all that no screw threads stick out past the nuts, so nothing to get caught on or hand scraped on. Nice job.

We just take the shelf down and lay it on a seat overnight. It is real easy to hit that bracket and knock the shelf down. It's no big deal to rehook the TV to the outlets. For the antennae wire we use push on connectors instead of screwing them on all the time.

With a bungee and clips on our Casita TV shelf there is no way we can knock it off while in bed. In the morning we can turn on the TV and watch the news before we get up, or watch in bed anytime for that matter. Shelf never gets removed, TV lays on bed while traveling.
