Had the unfortunate incident of someone wrenching the door of our '99
Burro while giving them a "tour". Door was being held open with the little (and well secured) latch/tab - they leaned very heavily on the door while stepping down and it actually ripped the outer fg sheet and pulled it out of the aluminum door frame.
Question is whether the fg sheet can be repaired and made watertight, or should we just replace it? Loathe to replace and lose the vintage fg material (which matches the rock guard). Can a fg sheet like this be repaired from the backside and be made watertight? Can't imagine how repair could be done on front/outside face and look right. Advice appreciated.
One other question: When disassembling the door it was obvious there was prior leakage - wood piece across bottom and about 6-8" up the side pieces were rotted away. Is it structurally ok to replace only the lower portion of the side pieces, i.e. there will be a joint, or should it be one continuous piece down the side?
I hope these questions make sense, the pictures should help....you'll see lots of duct tape goo as we had to tape the damage to get it home in the rain from Canada to Seattle.
Well after several attempts to attach photos with same result "Error 503 service unavailable", I'm just posting the question and will add the photos once I figure out what's wrong.
Thanks for any advice!
