Replace Boler main door with Scamp door?

I've searched through the forums to no avail. Does anyone know if we can replace the front door on our '78 Boler with a new Scamp door without a lot of refurbishment? Our current 'old' door is essentially cracked horizontally from when it was thrown open and leaned into against the outside of the trailer by the previous owner. Because of this, the built-in curve of the door is a lot less curved than it should be.

Perhaps you have any other suggestions? ANY IDEAS ARE APPRECIATED!

Replace Boler main door with Scamp door?

Door abuse!!!

The Scamp 13 door changed starting 2007 following a factory fire in 2006. It is now taller. I believe they still sell both. The old pre-2006 door might fit, or at least come close. I vaguely recall the width is different, but how much or in which direction I can't recall. Perhaps someone will chime in.

On the other hand, you might attempt a repair. The doors have a wood core that lends rigidity to the curve, but water infiltration can rot that wood and allow the curve to relax. Some have cut out the wood core and found it completely saturated!

Some people make a new wood core by cutting kerfs in a piece of plywood or ODB, gluing it on and fiberglassing it in. A jig is normally used to make sure it fits the correct curve. One person created a steel frame shaped to the curve of the shell filled in with some foam insulation and fiberglassed over that.

The horizontal crack can be repaired as part of the process.

The go-to thread for fiberglass repair is this one:

Resurrecting this thread here!

Armadillo / Trillium / Scamp seem to use the same door. Does anyone know if these are available somewhere? It would seem like a great door upgrade, if people don’t mind the cosmetic change.

Scamp doors have changed over the years. The pictures do not show pre and post fire. I do not know if they changed at that time.

I would consider replacing my Boler door with one of the flat doors on the right. I am assuming it also has a screen door.

Last summer I seen on the Scamp parts store page, They showed the door for the older 13 foot trailers. They had 3 different doors for the 13 foot trailers. The new flat door, the taller 13/16 foot trailer door, and a shorter door for older 13 foot trailers. Looks like they are still making doors for the older 13 foot trailers. Now the parts store page does not show any entry doors at all now. I would call scamp and ask. I think they had a molde made to build replacement doors for older 13 foot trailer doors. I have seen things appear and disappear on the web page before.

About 5 years ago I met a guy camping with an old Bolar, and he just picked up a new door for his 1300 bolar at Scamp. This was many years after the big fire.

Shorter 13 foot scamp doors still available

as of 2016 Scamp still supplies the shorter doors for the older 13 and should fit the Bolars I am sure the price has gone up since the posting on Scamp owners forum!

Scamp has enterance doors back on their parts page. A choice point is offered for a door of 64.5" used on 1971-2005 scamp 13" trailers. The door is not cheap!!

Unfortunately, ours is a curved body so the flat door wouldn't work in this case.
