Replacing waste gate valve handle

Mine must have fallen off. I found a metal replacement T-handle at Camping World for about $5 and it has matching threads. But it feels like the valve rod itself spins pretty freely, so I am not sure how to get the handle snug on the rod. Is the rod supposed to be able to turn like this?

You may have ro use a couple of nuts on the threaded shaft to make it stop turning.

Or put some five minute epoxy on the threads and screw it in...... but you will never be able to take the t handle out again.

I had that happen to our Casita shower valve. The plastic handle came off. I bought an entire valve assembly of the same size, removed the slide gate from the old valve by loosening the 4 screws in the valve body, and replacing the new slide gate in the original valve body and tightening the screws again. Good as new without needing to remove the old valve, nor repairing anything with epoxy, or double nutting the shaft.
