I would appreciate feedback from any Subaru owners re the cars towing capability and behaviour especially in towing weights of 1500 to 2000 lbs.

Replies can be on this form or if you wish please EMail me at

Thanks, John

Hello!

Thanks for the post, John! Subaru? Hummm.....are you thinking of one in particular? Or are you just thinking Subaru in general?

I'm sure there is a match out there somewhere. Like a Boler with one of the bigger Subarus.

We'll all help you keep a look out for info.:E :E

Subaru

I used to have one. :) but never towed with it. I think I remember someone with a 13ft Boler pulling with a Subaru, but not for sure.
Let me go check around in my notes and see if I can find that information.
I do know you want to make sure your tow vehicle is heavier then your trailer and you need to know your towing hitch capacity or rating. like class II or III

Subaru towing

Hi John:

We tow our 15 ft. Trillium with a Subaru Legacy station wagon. We have taken 3 trips so far, each being about 4500 miles. We have not experienced any problems. When climbing in the mountains it does lug (many others do too) but on flat ground it works great. Hubby drives around 55 to 60 miles per hour and stays in the right lane and pulls over when he has a parade behind him.

tow ratings

Don't forget that you can get tow ratings for just about anything from www.trailerlife.com

The following for example:

Legacy/Outback/Forester 2.5 SOHC I-4 2,000lbs (a)
(a) Trailer brakes required. Maximum hitch weight 200 pounds.

mkw

Thank you Diann! I was having no luck in my notes. I think it's about the same size as my Escape, but knowing the Subaru works is so much better.

Going to tow Trillium 4500 with Forester

I am so glad to hear that there is another Subaru owner with a 4500. I was a little worried about weight. Do you know what yours weighs? I just bought a Trillium 4500 (*pause for happy dance*) and I'll be towing with my Subaru Forester.

weights

All the Trilliums weigh in at different amounts than what is actually written in the manual, but as a guideline :

Trillium 1300 = 1050 lbs 13' long
Trillium 4500 = 1295 lbs 15' long
Trillium 5500 = 2450 lbs 17' long
