Reverse Rivets?

I've been cleaning out my Compact II and looking at the kitchen surround, I found that there are rivets at the top going from inside to outside. Was this how the factory did it? These would be covered by the pop top when it is down but not when it is deployed.

My 1973 Hunter Compact-II has 6, evenly spaced, rivets, all in a straight line holding the surround in place, and Yes, the top covers that are when down.

I suspect it was done at the factory that way for appearance purposes. The finished end of the rivet looks better on the inside of the trailer than the unfinished end would. If they did it the other way they would have had to put snap caps or an acorn nut on it to dress it up as Scamp does. As most people can not see the rivets on the roof top it really doesnt matter what they look like. It also makes no difference structurally or functionally - the unfinished end of the rivet should not leak if it has been installed correctly.

Thank you, Carol. That was my concern. I've read where folks periodically have to replace/repair rivets that are leaking. I suppose that since these are not really providing any heavy/structural support they will be less likely to experience stress?

Most of us need to replace rivets from time to time and for many reasons. I have had to replace one or two a year as my trailer has aged. Sometimes they simple snap in two due to stress/flexing of the trailer over the years - often in spots where they are on an outside wall and holding up heavy cabinets etc. I replaced one that was leaking that looked to me to have been replaced prior (did not have the original acorn on the inside) and I suspect it leaked as the party who replaced it used the wrong sized rivet (too small for the hole). Replaced with a better fitting rivet and no leaks since. Sometimes the rivets were just never put in tight enough in the first place and with time and flex of the trailer the issues with that becomes a problem. Suspect the later is often the case when you hear folks with a trailer of less than 10 years old having to fix a leaking rivet.

Not surprised the US is on of the few countries where the D/M/Y format is not commonly used.

I also am used to that format from my career in the Army. Unfortunately, my camera only allows for a number for the month.

Thank you, Donna. You gave me the impetus (that's the polite way to say it) to dig into my camera. Where the date & time are set, it only gave me the option for 12 hour clock. So, I played around a little more and found the 12/24 hr choice under a different menu item(not very user-friendly)!
Of course, my other camera does it differently.
