Reviving Dometic RM211: 110V Wiring

Finally pulled out my refrigerator on my Trillium 1300. This refrigerator has been sitting unused for at least 20 years. I found the pigtail rotten, insulation was gone, wires exposed, etc.

Looking at the RM211 manual, it states the pigtail is 5 1/2 feet long. Wow! I figure I will plug it in and ease the refrigerator back in position. But I surely don't need 5 1/2 feet. Maybe 3 feet.

I will be testing the heating element first, before wasting time rewiring. If it is good, I'll test it on my workbench.

Also, any advice on wiring? I'll probably either use 14-2 Romex, or sacrifice a 14AWG extension cord. One advantage of the extension cord is it will be stranded wire.

Power cord

Don't waste a good extension cord. There are plenty of computer power cords laying around. (50c at flea market). Cut off the square end, trim to fit.
My local junk dealer has a complete RM-211 in his pile, don't know if it works. Location Houston, TX
