Scamp 1997 16'

Would anyone have a guess why the owner installed this vinyl tarp on bath walls. Original fiberglass wainscoting is gone except for the wall behind sink.
Behind the vinyl appears to be aluminum like color insulation. Potentially purchasing but this is making me think a deal breaker. Sorry not sure how to rotate photos on this site.

Welcome to the forum. I see this is your first post. Not to be overly critical, but I would suggest posting vertical, properly oriented pictures. It's not that hard.

And after reading your post, I have no clue what exactly you're aking about. A little better description of your concern would probably help a lot as well.

Thank you for the feedback. The photos when uploading change orientation. Not sure how to fix that. I've added a little more info. Hoping for thoughts, but ok if I don't receive any due to pics and or question clarity. Thanks again.

How much are they asking for it? I wouldn't consider that a "deal breaker" just yet. What is the overall condition of the trailer?

Unfortunately I can't inlarge the pictures to look closely at them, but is it possible that is the original shower liner? The supporting insulation sounds correct from what I have in my Scamp. Of course mine is newer, and has the "rat fur" but the shower has simular wall covering of sorts.
If the rest of the Scamp is good for you and a fair price why not.

After looking at it a few times, even enlarged on my screen, I have no clue as to what that stuff is that he put on the bathroom trailer wall, (and, sight unseen, what it may possibly be hiding.)

I'd move with caution on this one. Just my 2 cents.

Can you speak to the owner and ask why the vinyl?

Owner said it was that way when they bought it 5 years ago.

If this is the $3,000 Scamp, I would be buying it right now. If you pass, every trailer you will find for sale, you will be comparing to this one "I can't believe I passed on that Scamp". If everything was perfection, this would be a $10,000 trailer or more.

As far as what's up with that bathroom liner, no idea. You are seeing it in person, gives you an edge over the rest of us.

First thing I check on a Scamp, is I climb underneath it and inspect the underside OSB flooring. It will tell you where the problems are. It's one huge plus for Scamps. On most of these trailers, the floor cannot be inspected visually, as it is covered with fiberglass.

Thank you for your reply. I'm having a RV shop check the underground and Axel tomorrow. There's not a lot of experienced guys in my Mountain locale. Scamp won't even ship a axel to my zip code? So keeping my fingers 🤞

As you say the original fiberglass wainscoting is gone except for the wall behind sink. Instead of putting in bathroom wall panels like vinyl covered board as in many newer trailers or the surround like in a house shower they chose to just hang a vinyl curtain over the foil insulation to contain the shower water. In our newer 5th wheel we had the vinyl covered wall panel and the shower rod and curtain went around the whole enclosure for added protection. If you are handy it would not be too big a project to put in proper shower wall panels, making sure you seal against water penetration. Good luck.

If the vinyl is securely attached and, more importantly, feels pliable or flexible rather than stiff and brittle, then it may be no problem.

Some have suggested that it is Elephant skin and wavy because glue is worn out.

What is on the rest of the walls of the trailer, rat fur, (a furry more carpet like wall covering) or ensolite (elephant skin a crinkly vinyl over closed cell foam). I doubt it is elephant skin if it looks like a foil type material behind the curtain.

Behind it is the silver color insulation. So agree probably not the Elephant. Trailer walls are Rat Fur. One wall in bath is that plexiglass stuff. Still a mystery
