Hi all - Michele and i are in the middle of a 7+ week road trip....

Last night we had one of the door catches break.

two part question....

1) Any idea on where to START looking for a replacement whilst on the road?

2) BIGGER question - i have never REALLY liked those stock catches. Has anyone made a complete change out? If so what did you use? suggestions are welcome....

Thanx in advance -

Alan W

Are you talking about one of the cabinet door catches or the catch for the front or "privacy room" doors?

Cabinet door catches should be available at a woodworking supply as well as traditional (e.g. pre-Home Depot) hardware stores. The Privacy Room catch is a screen door latch, and can be found at Home Depot or Lowes. The front door catch . . . no clue.

For a longer-term solution, I replaced the Scamp cabinet door latches with magnets.

Hey Alan,
Ours unlatched while driving on this last trip - I recall an extensive thread on exactly this problem with lots of folks replacing their catches and even installing dead bolts - in a nutshell you mount a wood block to get the spacing right and make a secure space and install the new latch - you will have to hunt around the site a little but I know it's in here somewhere.
