Scamp furnace fan problems

I have a 2010 5th wheel scamp and the other day when we found the furnace fan running when the thermostat was on off. We unplugged from external power and after a few minutes the fan stopped. Does anybody know why this happens?

It shouldn't happen and just unplugging the power cable sholdn't have fixed any known problems unless you then had a dead battery.

First suspect is the thermostat. Plug everything back in and, the next time the fan runs when it shouldn't,, disconnect one of the wires from the thermostat. If it stops after a few minutes you may have a bad thermostat. If it doesn't stopyou have a wiring troubleshooting problem of a circuit board problem to resolve. Remember, it takes a few minutes for the fan to shut down when the thermostate is turned off.

BTW: If the LP gas was OFF at the tank the fan would still run but the furnace wouldn't light off.

Good Luck

Bet the thermostat was still trying to pull from the battery. You thought it was shut off, but when the temperature drops below whatever the thermostat is set to, it tries to fire up. There's a reason a lot of Scamp owners change the theromostat.. think you found out that reason...

My 2006 Scamp factory thermostat has an "off" position. Once you go to the lowest setting, the lever will move with a bit of resistance another bit and turn off the thermostat. Pull the cover off, and look at the upper left corner, there should be two small pieces of metal that the plastic lever moves between.
I had to replace mine and when I did the lever wouldn't go into the off position until I did a little adjustment to the metal pieces that make up the switch.

Off on a thermostat is relative At -47 deg f thermostats with a designated off position will turn on even if they are in the off position . Most home tstats have 40 deg f as their minimum set point to stop you from turning the heat off and freezing up the house by accident

When i replaced my furnace, also replaced thermostat. old one actually had a on/off switch, new one just a lever to set temp. Was surprised to go out in the trailer when it got cold and furnace fan was running, dont know if i didnt go that extra mile to actually shut it off at the thermostat or on the new one if it actually does that (have to check it out) but I just shut off power at furnace switch, guess that would the prudent thing to do anyway if not using.
