Sealing the awning holder thing...

I'll have to seal the "slit thing for the awning" (I apologize for my lack of vocabulary and/or my brain going blank). I'm thinking about putting some Dynaflex on top and underneat. It looks like there was silicone or something like that. Is that the thing to do? There was some around the little rain guard above the door too. Should I seal it with Dynaflex as well? My rain guard is aluminum without paint but am thinking about painting it. Is it a good call? The rivets are so gooped up with silicone that I really don't think I'll be able to make it look good without paint...

Thanks!

When I installed the awning rail (slit thing) on our Uhaul I put some Proflex sealant on each rivet as I installed it. Use a peel type rivet. Some like to put butyl tape under the rail. I did not because it compresses and eventually the rail may be loose. Matter of opinion on that issue, your decision on what is best

Cool

Hi, Uncle Cereal,

You had a rain guard in unpainted aluminum over your door, too? So ours wasn't just
some scabbed on afterthought to cover cracks? So maybe we'd better consider
putting it back? Sheesh.

Good to know.
