Seam Tape

Hello Folks,

I'm a new owner of an old Scamp (1981). It needs some TLC. All of the wall seams on the inside had been covered with white plastic insulation strips - they look like the ones used for tub seams. I guess they didn't hold on too well, because most of them were falling off. The ones that weren't falling off had obviously glued in place several times with several different kinds of glue, including what looked like gorilla glue. I removed it all as best I could, and now I'm wondering what to cover the seams with.

I believe that the Scamp company sells their original seam tape, but I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas, of things that work better, and look better. I thought that metal strips would look really cool, but couldn't figure out how to attach them, other than rivets, and that wouldn't look so cool from the outside!

Hi Dawn:

I took someone elses suggestion and used 3/4" double sided white foam mounting tape. I then applied baby powder to the exposed sticky side. It worked like a charm. Whoever (they were in this forum) suggested this to me claimed that this is how it was originally done by the factory. It sure looks right and brightens things up and it is quite affordable. I used 2 rolls and came up about 2feet short. Problem is I don't remember how long the rolls were but I got them at Home Depot. Talc on a papertowel is how I got the talc onto the vertical surfaces. I'm now considering taking it all down and caulking the seams, texturing the caulk and painting the entire interior because the new seam tape makes the old ensolite look dingy in comparison. Interesting! I never would have thought of that.

Strangely enough, I did think of using caulk. I just didn't know whether the ensolite could be painted or not. I guess that's my next question then.....how does one paint ensolite?

I know this is an old post, but wondering why you just don't paint leaving the tape on. What did you end up doing?
