Selling 2013 Scamp

I have owned a 16 foot Scamp for 11 years. It is a 2013 with a side dinette. It has been garaged the entire time when not in use. My wife recently died and it holds too many memories for me to keep it.
I see very few Scamps for sale on the internet and have no idea what they sell for today. Does anyone know what they are going for or if there is a site that shows the prices of sold trailers? I have contacted several rv dealers in the area (Washington State) and have been offered (sight unseen) everywhere from 1200 to 7400 (on consignment….with 7400 being the high). I am just looking for an accurate assessment for its true value.
Thank you.

I would put its retail value in the $14-18K range, assuming it is in unmodified, good condition with typical equipment and options.

Have you checked out the SOLD archives at www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com? You should be able to find similar recent units for comparison.

You are being low-balled, which I would expect from dealers. Molded fiberglass does not depreciate nearly as fast as conventional trailers. You’ll be much better off selling it yourself than working through a dealer. This site and the one I linked are both good places to list. But if you prefer to work with a dealer, go armed with printouts of comps. You won't get full market value, but you should get more than $7400.

I’m so very sorry about your wife.

I just tried the link and read the sad news that fiberglass-RV-4sale.com has closed. Unfortunately, all the valuable archives went with it.

Try "Scamp Classifieds" on Facebook to scroll through recent listings. The most active discussion group is "Scamp Travel Trailers." Search groups to find them. I believe they're both private, so you have to join to view.

Thanks, Jon

Thank you Jon! I am having a little trouble navigating this site as I have rarely used it. I will take a look at Facebook. I would be happy with $12000 or so but $7400 seemed very low for the condition it is in. I realize they have to get commission and you pay for the convenience of the sale.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding. I thought if you sell on consignment, you set the price and they get a fixed percentage. If buyers make a lower offer, you can accept or reject the offer. You don't get any money until it sells. If you sell outright to a dealer, they set the price. You can certainly negotiate, but they have the final word. You get your money immediately.

To Jon

I contacted Camping World and was told that they would sell my Scamp for me on consignment but the most I would get would be $7400 net with nothing else taken out of that price. They said if lower offers came in they would let me know and I could accept or reject it. That tells me that they will list it probably for a few grand more than $7400 and if someone buys it at that price I would get the full $7400 without paying any other fees and they would take the extra couple of grand as their fee. If someone makes a lower offer than their posting they would relay what my portion would be if I accepted the offer and I could accept it or reject it. They did not tell me what percent of the sale they would charge. There was no offer to buy the trailer outright.
I was trying to get more info on value before I recontact them about their offer. When I recontact them I will ask them specifically what their percentage is. So far all conversations have been by email but the. Amping World facility is only about 45 minutes from my house.

Wow! They’re basically offering a wholesale price without buying it outright, taking a 40% commission, and leaving you the risk of loss if they make a poor sale and no benefit if it sells for a better price. Lousy deal. Try some other dealers. Ask whether they will list it online- RVTrader or similar.

But for the time you spend searching for a better deal, you could list and sell it yourself and be done. That’s why 90% or more of used molded fiberglass trailer sales are private party transactions. Well-priced and well-presented units often sell within days, and your location is prime. Think of it as earning $5-6K for a few days’ work!

There are a number of old threads about how to sell a trailer privately with helpful- though occasionally differing- opinions on personal safety and funds transfer. The Google search bar works pretty well to find them.

I sold a Roadtrek a few years ago, my first private sale ever. Listed on Craigslist and posted a link in the Class B Forums. I did some homework about how to safely show the unit (not at home) and how to navigate the transfer of funds (wire transfer) and title transfer (notarized at my bank after verifying the transfer). It was a little scary and I did have to deal with some aggressive flippers, but in the end all went smoothly. Send me a DM if you’d like more details.

For a Scamp I might consider the Scamp Classifieds group on Facebook to list. I would recommend turning off comments to avoid nit picking by people not looking to buy. Serious buyers can message you privately.

Selling your Scamp

Also condolences on your loss. Please take a few good photos of it and post it on some of the "Marketplace" ad sites. Those offered values are poor. Please do not accept another loss. Somewhere out there is a future Scamp owner looking for your camper. Took me several years to find mine, but managed to "Adopt" mine from a couple going into a senior living condo with no place to store the camper. Mine was a deal, but they were just happy it went to a good home. May you find your "perfect buyer". I would not take $12K for mine today. Hope things work out.

Greeting All,
Paul, I too am looking to sell my 2013 16' Scamp. I just relocated to Bainbridge Island.
The info being given in this thread is right on. For example I just did a search on Facebook "Scamp travel trailers for sale" and got several Scamp adds. Here is one posted yesterday. Fiberglass campers do not depreciate. Best to you and take care.

Thank you to all

Thank you to all who gave me more info on selling my Scamp. After discussions with my family I decided to keep it for my sons so that they could enjoy it with their families. I will not be taking it out anymore as the memories of my lovely wife are still too strong. I may tag along on a trip or two with a tent and oenjoy coffee in the morning inside a nice warm trailer though.
You’ve all all been very kind and helpful and I genuinely thank you for your help.
May God bless you all,
Paul

Our second daughter already has dibs on our Scamp. Always nice to keep it in the family. Hope you , your sons, and their families enjoy some bonding time around the Scamp and you are able to find peace and healing.
