I hope that someone out there knows what I'm describing.

There's something thats made for hanging curtains on that is (I believe) some sort of long spring that is 'sleeved' in vinyl. It comes in one long piece and you just cut it to the length you need to fit the window. The ends of the cut spring inside the sleeve can then be attached over eyehooks at each side of the window.

Does this ring a bell with anyone out there? Does anyone know what they're called?

I think those are called "curtain wires." I saw them at a Wal-Mart in Canada (near Barrie), and figured I'd just wait to pick some up when I was back home in the U.S..... and then have not seen them here, even though I've looked in a number of places. In Canada they were just made by one of those ubiquitous curtain rod supply companies, and were with all the usual cafe rods, and etc. in the fabric department. Now I wish I'd picked some up!

That said, I have not tried an Internet search, so maybe "curtain wire" would turn some up.

I got mine at my local home depot , you can probably get yours at any one of the many hardware stores in the US . I just put some in my boler yesterday . It's a better alternative than rods .

Yes, but your local Home Depot is a Canadian one! I haven't seen them at the Home Depots in the U.S. (or at Lowe's, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.)

Weird that they would be there and not here.

Those look similar to the ones I saw. The main difference I can see is that those have large-ish white plastic end brackets and the ones at the Canadian Wal-Mart had more compact metal end brackets. They are a spring-wire inside a white sleeve. "Heavy" for what you'd think they'd be when you pick up the package.

I bought ones for our trailer at Rona. It was maybe 12' long and needed to be cut to length and came with very small screw-in 'eyes' and hooks.

The only ones I found on the Bay are in the UK, but they are not expensive (~ $12 for 100 feet w/100 screw eyes). Am waiting to find out the cost of shipping -- could be more than the product itself, depending on the weight.

Also found a lot from Ikea, (Deka) but they look like the springs are in the brackets, not in the wire. There may not be springs at all, since the instructions show that you tighten the wire by turning the brackets, sort of like a turnbuckle. It also appears that they need to be mounted between 2 walls, unless you add an L-shaped bracket to their brackets.

Found a lot of wholesale ones on Google as well, but no retail in the US. Could be an opportunity for someone to import them from China...?
