Title Help

Hi all, I need help with getting a title for a love bug that my neighbor just gave me. We cannot find the title for it. It had an old license plate on it but the state of Florida cannot find it in there system its to old
It needs a major overhaul but I do not want to do anything to it unless I have the correct paperwork. I have the vin# and the metal piece with the weight and year it was manufactured. Tri Fab 1973. Any info would be fantastic. Thanks

Every state is different so yours should be able to advise you on how to make it legally yours. May have to start with a notarized bill of sale. Our vintage teardrop had no paperwork, a clerk at NY Motor Vehicle said for me to say it had been in my possession for more than one year. Maybe your neighbor can make some statement to that effect.Or he may have to file for a lost title.

It might be possible for your nice neighbor to gather anything he has and tell the DMV he lost the title and get a replacement.

But as Mary and Bob stated every state has their own rules.

What documentation is required to apply for a duplicate certificate of title when the original has been lost or destroyed?

Form HSMV 82101, Application for Duplicate or Lost in Transit/Reassignment for a Motor Vehicle, Mobile Home or Vessel Title Certificate, accurately completed by the applicant.
Proof of Identity. (copy of Drivers License, Identification Card, etc.)
Lien satisfaction, if applicable.
Motor Vehicle title fees vary, as follows:
If title remains electronic = $75.25
To print and mail a paper title = $77.75
To print and mail a fast title = $85.25
Vessel title fees ($6)
($5 additional for Fast Title Service)

So get the nice neighbor started on this and working with FL DMV.. Once he has the title he can transfer it to you. Hey.. you didnt think this free trailer was gonna be free did you?
