Top jalousie window aggrevation

So, my 1974 Trillium has original jalousie windows, 3 pane. I am trying to replace the gaskets in them and the top j seal, but it is impossible to remove the top glass panel. I cannot seem to find any videos of someone actually removing the single window- plenty of them removing the entire thing to reseal with butyl- but I have already done that. Likely I should have replaced the seals when the window was out, but there HAS to be a way to pop out the top windows just like the lower two.

How do people remove the top jalousie window?!

I just removed all the jalousie windows, but not the frames, in my '73 Trillium.
Once you have all the screws removed, it's a matter of getting a flat screwdriver in between the small bracket and the window frame, you can see by the other windows which way they have to go. You will have to be a little forceful and it helps to curse, but keep wiggling and eventually it will come loose enough to pull one end out.

Hm. There are the small triangle pieces that the screws go into- they appear to be plastic. i was able to tilt the window pane up and it lifts off that piece it rests on/screws into. Yet, it still won't come out. They don't appear to just lift out. We've been worried that we'd bend the aluminum.

To change just one, I think you would have to remove the bottom portion of the aluminum frame (for that section) then wiggle the glass out, I don't think the pane with it's surrounding frame comes out as a single unit

They absolutely do. Each pane is able to be entirely taken apart, 4 sides, gaskets, and glass. I imagine it would be almost impossible to put new gaskets in and wiggle the glass into 3 sides of the frame.

I'm rebuilding my Jalousie windows on the Surf Side which are the same windows. I'm having to take them apart and clean the paint off them and replace the seals and the actuators. I was going to make a video today .. so I'll post that later.

Your not wrong Tim.. The glass is wedged in with a rubber trim. and will need a bit of persuasion.

I hope this will help.. With the window open ..

On both sides you will find this .. Removing these two #6 Robertson screws (both sides) the frame will just slide out. Then there are four more screws on each corner of the frame.



These hold the frame together and the glass in..

So I have 2 screws on each side, at the triangle like pieces. After removed, the window pane does not slide out. There is a lip on the top of it, plus the edge of the top frame of the window, which prevents it from just sliding right out or popping it up and out.

I will take pics when I try again after the rain. It's so frustrating as everyone says they slide out, but mine simply do not, and I bought all the gaskets already lol

You are right.. The top pane will not just slide out.. The others do but not the top.. The top window frame is too close. And since the triangle piece is also the hinge pin you can't spread it far enough. since I have the windows out I have no problem.. Let me see how to do it without removing the window. Gota be a way.

Exactly! I'm able to get all of the lower windows out, just not the top ones.

Got it ! I'm taking mine apart anyway... Looking at the window from outside .. there is a tab on the left.. but not on the right. So with a little gentle prying the right side will move down and out. and the left just comes too. So strange that those tabs are there .. give it a try worked for me..

I don't understand how that tab impacts removing the window pane from the main frame.
Removing the window from the fiberglass wall of my camper isn't an issue.

If that tab is on the exterior of your window, we have different windows. Your very first pic with the j seal is the location I'm having issue with.

These windows will be the death of me! Lol

Here is a pic of my back window. The cracked j seal along the top shows where the window won't lift out from. There are also no tabs anywhere

Those window panes look the same as mine.. When it stops raining ... open them up and look to see if you can see these differences.


On the left side of the pane (on mine) there is a piece of the top on the back side that extends out preventing you from pulling the pane down. in the circle.


On the right side .. (on mine) not there.. Allowing me to pull down on the pane enough to clear the top frame.. then lift that side and the pane will come free. Done with the window half open.. You may have things different ?

hmm its hard to tell what is behind mine, since the window is in. There doesn't appear to be any tabs though. After the rain I'm going to take a lower one out again and see, as I'm able to take those ones out, just not the top.
