Towing
Is there anyone out there towing with a Honda Odyssey Mini Van? We are towing with a 2000 and love it and have had no problems. Just wondering, since everyone talks so much about their tow package and vehicles but have not heard anyone refer to the Honda. We saw the Honda featured as the tow vehicle in Trailer Life Magazine so we bought our Casita.

Had a new friend ask. Can I tow with a Sonoma? Are there any Sonomas out there pulling trailers. I don't care if it's fiberglass or not. mainly does it pull?

Jana - I believe that a sonoma is a Chevy, right? Could be GMC, regardless, pretty much the same. Best thing to do is call a dealer and see what they recommend. Depends on gear ratio, HP, transmission, etc. Just saying Sonoma isn't enough info. Once she knows that, she can then find out. Usually owners manual will tell you.
She can probably pull a fiberglass RV with it.....it may have to be smaller one rather than bigger one, though. I've seen some Bolers pulled by some pretty small vehicles.

I was afraid of that. I didn't even know they came in sizes. I think she is going to have to come here and fill in the blanks.

Paul, How much does your Bigfoot weigh? Do you find the 2000 Odyssey pulls with not problems or jsut does OK? ...and last Paul Ig you replaced your 2000 Odyssey would you get something different?
:o Sorry Paul for all the questions. I think it might help Sara get perspective.

HI I pull my 17 foot Boler with GMC Sonoma.4.3 Liter motor, I think thats about a 283 Cu IN. Boler weight dry about 2300 Lbs. Truck rated to pull 5000lbs.I have no problems, Its a 5 speed stick shift. I tow mostly in the mountains up here and can maintain speed limits.5th gear is a small gear so I only cruse in 4th.Hope that helps.:)

That's a 17' Bigfoot, right, Paul? Not the larger one? I think that might make a difference.
Ches, I think the information you gave will really help. I assume it would be similiar to the older style Blazer/Jimmy and they do fine. I use to have a 96 Blazer, V-6, 4.3 Vortex and I believe it was 190HP, but not sure.

Towing
Thanks Paul. for your reply to my question on towing with your Honda Odyssey.
And yes Michael. it would be helpful to have the answers to the questions you posed such as weight, and size of Bigfoot trailer that Paul is towing..
We have the 17' Casita Spirit Deluxe and we are aware of the weight limit of the Honda being 3500 lbs. and we are also very careful about what extra gear that we take with us on our camping trips.
So far we have not had any problems with towing except in elevations of 2,000 feet or more but I think that we were mostly just a little scared of the steep incline at the time with the rain and bad weather we were having.
We got our Casita on June 27th and so far we have camped 36 days in it and can't wait to do more. We have camped in, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont and New York State. Can't wait until we retire and can do the rest of the states.
Thanks everyone,
Sara
