Truck tailgates

Does anyone know of a way to seal a tailgate to help keep dust out? I'm getting a new truck on Friday and a topper a bit later. All the trucks I've had with toppers had a lot of dust infiltration. I've tried some weather stripping but it hasn't been really big enough to properly fill the gap. I carry a lot of trailer/camping gear in the bed and hate having it get a lot of dust on it. Thanks

You could try using some plastic around the sides and bottom of the tailgate from the inside. The stuff they ship mattresses in would be ideal, heavier gauge than vapour barrier.

I seen something once what you are after but for the life on me i cant remember where, was some kind of flap that sealed the tailgate bottom. My 2007 silverado tailgate at the sides is sealed prettty good but the bottom is unsealed, also holes in the stake beds which lead right to the inner fenders, also the two drain holes in bottom front of bed.

The best way to deal with it would be to rig up a filtered air source and fan and pump it in and let it leak out the back. The pressurized air would keep the dust out.

I have an extang tonneau on my Tacoma.
It came with a special weather stripping to seal the tailgate.
I've had it 6 years and both the tonneau and weather stripping are in excellent condition.
Try extang.co and they may sell the tailgate weather stripping separately.

I have a Dakota with a canopy shell, the inside of the be is lined with a bed rug (brand name). The only time I've had any dust to speak of is when I open the canopy door some fall in if I don't blow it off.
The best dust control on dusty roads is slower speed. Creates less dust in the air and there less dust inside. If you're going to be towing your Scamp on dirt roads it's even more important to slow down.

depending on which truck you have chosen, you may be surprised. Newer trucks are more and more carlike when it comes to that sort of thing.
The tailgate on your new truck may be sealed better than you anticipate.

My local RV dealer suggested that I fasten some slide-out seal to the truck bed sides so that the tailgate closes against the seal when the tailgate is closed. Going to give it a try. Still unsure about what to do about the bottom of the tailgate.

Just learned yesterday from the topper dealer that there is a kit for sealing the truck box. $40. I'm gonna have him install it when the topper goes on.
