Question underseat wall foam help

Hi,

I'm demoing and cleaning up my 1984 13" Scamp (YIPEE FINALLY!).

I scraped the remaining foam stuff off the walls that are under the fiberglass bench assemblies. It was a mess.

Do I need to replace this with something?

I live in Florida and don't want to put anything there except paint because of the high humidity. However, is it important to put some kind of insulating covering back on those walls?

Thank you so much!

Tonnie

Camping in warm weather I see no issue, other than the sun heating the trailer a bit more. In cold weather bare fiberglass gets very wet from condensation as others have described on this site. My guess is you will have no problem if outside temps remain above 40 degrees.

You probably do not need it in Florida, however since you have gone so far it would be better to replace it - carpet that can be glued to the fiberglass [i.e. not rubber backed] would be suitable. At some point you might encounter colder weather and condensation would be a problem without some insulation.

Thanks Bob and John!

Do you think outdoor carpet would work best to cut down on the potential mold problem?

Will air conditioning the inside while it's hotter than Hades outside cause condensation as well?

Not as long as condensate drains outside, as it should. In fact, AC will have the opposite effect of dehumidifying.

On older scamps under the seats I use spray 3m glue and install reflectix foil insulation. It insulates, prevents condensation, brightens up the area, secures and hides your wiring and will not promote mold growth. To clean up the walls scrape first and a powered wire brush works well with clean up.

Eddie, did you use 3M77 or 3M90? I thought I heard that the 77 does not hold up well in temperature extremes.

I had been using 77 but the last can I bought was 90 but have not used it yet. No big deal under the seats with no ratfur hanging on the outside of the reflectix.

Oops! Wrong Year!

I've gotten confused along the way and made my Scamp younger than it actually is...

It's not an 1984 13 ft. Scamp, it's a 1979.

Must have been using the same math I use for my own age!
