Question Unknown roof patch, help!

We bought a used 1990 16' Scamp, and want to install a roof fan. There is a patch on the roof that is much larger than the 14"x14" opening for fans, anyone know what used to be in this space? And any advice for placement of fan?

A friend who builds and repairs fiberglass sailboats was going to cut the hole in the roof, but when we realized the old hole was much larger than needed we halted. I'd love to know what used to be in this space.

The prior owner put up wallpaper on the ceiling inside, which I have not ripped out yet, so I am flying blind as to what may or may not be under it. But it doesn't look like there is any additional support for an a/c.

That was probably for the egress vent. It's an opening approx 18x25. https://www.scamptrailers.com/produc...-vent-complete

Would you normally have one or the other? Egress vent or fan? Or do some have both?

The egress is standard on some years of Scamps. I think it changed to a 14x14 passive vent when they went with an egress window.

I've seen all manner of 'stuff' on the roof. Frankly IMHO the best is one passive vent and one power vent at opposite ends of the trailer.

I think a lot of the 90's Scamps had the AC under a counter or in a closet. Used a common window air conditioner unit rather than a roof top RV unit. Nice price difference if you ever need to replace or repair the AC since the small window units are just a bit over $100 and easy swap out.

I would probably strip the inner covering and the goop around
the outter repair edges to evaluate the repair first. Get your sailboat friends input. I'm sure he'll know if it's secure.
