Unusual tail light in 2021 Scamp. Help.

A tail light stopped working recently in my 2021 Scamp 13. What I found when I took off the cover was way different from what I expected. Does anyone know how to work with these?

One odd thing, and maybe this is unimportant, is that the 4 screws around it are not all the same. There are two types. Do I only need to take off two of them? Why would they do that? I think they have different heads.

Is this a modern multi function led light?

It may be time to get out the volt meter. No the screws should not matter and the negative is wired to the light as the body is fiberglass. If you remove it you may find that it has lost its ground if the brake light has failed as well. If it is the only tail light that has failed I'd like to blame it on the wiring from the tow vehicle. I think that it is an optronics part. There is a video about the light down this page a little.

Thanks very much. I watched the video. I think that tail light is not expected to fail. There is nothing at all replaceable in it. It’s a 9 led complicated light. Replacing the whole thing would involve breaking the butyl seal, pulling and cutting wires, three splices and then redoing the butyl seal. I wish I had normal old fashioned taillights with a replaceable bulb.

I guess I do need to measure voltage and see if the taillights is actually the problem. If the wiring is the problem, I am not sure how easy it will be to trace down the wires in the back of the scamp.

Is this running lights only or is it also brake and turn light? If it does all three then there’s 2 circuits and if nothing works get you a test light and check power on plug connections on your tow vehicle. If vehicle has power on all connections your going to need to use test light with camper plugged into tow vehicle and use test light to check power through wiring to see if there’s an issue in the wire somewhere. If you find power to the light then make sure ground is good for light. Can also check ground connection first. If everything checks out good then it has to be a defective light.

Also not likely to fail. I would expect the wiring to fail more often. I would make sure you have power AND ground at the light.
