Does anybody know where the VIN number is on a 2002 13-foot Scamp? We are hoping to haul one from New York to Pennsylvania and need a pencil rubbing of it from the owner so the notary can issue a temporary tag to get it down here.

On my 81 13, it is on the inside of the right frame member up near the jack. They are often tough to read if the tongue has been painted. Don't know if they changed the location in later years.

That would be the curb side, not the side where the side-mounted jack is usually located, just to be clear.

Once again, my 1988 must be different . I have a stock from the factory swing up jack on the door side of the A-Frame. That's where the VIN is located too.

I wonder why the difference -- It wasn't an owner switch because the pivot bracket for the jack is welded to the frame on my '91S13' (driver's side).

Don't know Pete. But mine is certainly on the other side. When I park, I either have to walk around the tug or climb over the hitch to crank down. But then climb back over to unplug the electrics from the tug. That's going to change this summer. Going with a center mount electric tongue jack. About the only thing I've seen that's common is the VIN is somewhere on the tongue.

So far, the VINs on Scamp that I've read about or seen have always on the right-facing-forward, curbside top of the frame a few inches back from the coupler.

If the owner will let you, use his tag to get it to tag place in Pa and then send it back.
Our vin was so light that we couldn't get a good enough rub for DMV. We took the trailers right to the tag place and let them look at them there to verify.
Good luck,
G

Thank you, folks, for all your responses. There are a lot of little details to learn about when purchasing the first camper! Hopefully, it will all come together this month.

That's a suggestion worth looking into! It may come to that! Do you have a favorite campground in Pennsylvania to recommend for our "maiden voyage"? We were considering the Grand Canyon of PA.
