Water Heater Leak

Today I ran the hot water for the first time to check how long it would take to get hot. It didn't, although the furnace was going. So I opened the outside door next to the water heater and saw two valves inline from the water heater closed off. After opening them I went inside and no water would run from the hot water line. Back to the outside and there was water dripping on the ground and running inside down the trailer.

I don't see any leaks other than inside the access door and outside the front of the water heater. All fittings look secure and the back of the heater is dry, looking from inside through the bench seat.

Going to take another look...

It's an Atwood G6A-8E

Roger,
I hope you didn't crack the tank. My Atwood water heater (GC6AA-10E) owner's manual warns against running the water heater with an empty tank, although they don't mention the consequences for doing it, I suspect that it could cause damage to the tank itself.

Hi: Roger M... I ran the dual fuel water heater in our trailer when empty...OOOP's!!! I burnt out the electric element which turned out to be a $15-20.replace/repair. Remember to fill the water tank you must leave the hot water tap open, while the tank fills, till the water runs out. Air out... water in!!! It usually takes 15 min. for it to heat up then.
