I'm replacing a 6-gallon Suburban water heater in my '85
U-Haul VT-16.
I need to make a decision concerning features and capacity.
Simplest & cheapest option is to replace the existing 6-gallon gas pilot model for about $240.
+$40 for direct spark ($280)
+$90 for direct spark & electric power option ($329)
Other options are getting a 3-gallon gas pilot water heater, same size and width on the exterior install, and about 3 inches shallower. Costs about $60 more than the base 6-gallon. It's 7lbs lighter dry and 30 lbs lighter wet than the 6 gallon. Smaller 8,000 BTU than the 12,000 BTU 6-gallon model.
I'm leaning toward either the 6 gallon Direct Spark or 3-gallon (gas pilot only) model. I don't think I need the electric option - any opinions?
I am thinking my wife is going to shower until the hot water runs out!
