weight of 1993 17' Bigfoot

I have a 1993 Bigfoot that I purchased last year. It is in great condition and is a wonderful trailer. However after towing a Trillium 4500 and then a Scamp 19' It seems a bit on the heavy side. I just towed it around the West for almost 4k miles with a 2016 Chevy Colorado diesel and my mileage, 14 mpg, was less than any other fiberglass trailer I've towed. Could it be the square shape or am I correct in my assumption that the Bigfoot 17's are heavy?

Its the shape. What speed are you cruising at?

Cruised about 60ish. Same as with my other trailers. I also took the same route I've taken several times before. It has the original 4" drop axle and brand new 14" tires so doesn't sit high to cause more resistance.

If you are going into a headwind it will get worse. I get about 13 towing with a Tacoma, but once in a sever headwind, got 7 1/2. I would have thought a Colorado diesel would do better than 14 mpg.

If you Google the question weight of 1993 17 foot Big foot travel trailer you get the entire specs the weight is 1,875 pounds. Ask Google and get the entire specs sheet for this trailer. Title should say 1993 not 2993.

I recently bought a 1994 Bigfoot 17 and stopped at the scales on the way home. The trailer itself weighed in at 2500#. I don't yet know the tongue weight.

Width is a factor. Both the Trillium and the Scamp are about 80" wide. The Bigfoot is 96" wide.

Since most of that extra width is outside the profile of your tow vehicle, it adds a lot of aerodynamic drag.

About the only thing you can do to counter the effect of drag is to slow down.

My 1993 17CB unit weighed out at just under the 3450 lb total mark before some mods. This unit had lots of add ons, such as roof AC, welded on B&L corner crank supports, stove with oven, and some other minor stuff. I did add another battery and rear generator mount so I am definitely over the 3500 lbs, with full propane and fresh water tank.
The front surface area is like 2 sheets of 4X8 plywood so wind loading and speed do affect gas mileage, but it tracks well, never sways and stops well with the 10" Dexter Nev'r'adjust brakes. It is way heavier than the specs in the door indicate.
For sure not a lightweight!

Yeah specs won't tell you what it weighs. My 91 weighs around 3,100lbs. As other people already mentioned, it's the shape. Mine tows fine, though I have no other trailer to compare it to. But I tow with a 3.4L V6, a little Tacoma.

Doesn't need to be a really strong wind...any headwind stronger than a light breeze is very noticeable. The Bigfoot shape catches a lot of air.

Someone posted here once about using a wind deflector with their Bigfoot and it helping a lot. It's something I'd really like to look into.
