I'm back from our holiday trip and trying to tackle leaks again. First up was going to be the window over the stove. I had to take off the stove hood, and found that the window is missing the top inner piece of aluminum frame. Instead, someone cut out a chunk of the upper cabinet and put a bent piece of aluminum up inside the cabinet, and bent down to go up against the wall and the window. This set up apparently leaks like a sieve.

So I have a missing part of the inner window frame and don't know what to do now. Suggestions?

Here are some photos.

First is the window without the extra piece of aluminum.

Then the extra piece of aluminum put back not quite in place.

Then the view of the aluminum from inside the upper cabinet.

I feel like I remember seeing other Bolers wherein the owners have removed the vent hood and ended up with that bit of window frame missing. Perhaps it was removed by (at least some of) the builders when installing the hood.

Looking at my window, it seems as though you could still re-seal the window and re-install it, even with that bit of frame missing. You could re-use that added bit of aluminum, or something else, as a backing plate for the fasteners on that top edge, it seems.

I guess what I'm thinking is that poor bedding is what is causing the window to leak, not that missing bit of inside frame. And the frame might have been cut at the factory (?)
