What is the proper seal for Scamp window.

I removed some unsightly caulking around a side window in my Scamp and discover an issue with the window seal. At the top of the window and down a few inches I found some type of glazing material between the outside window frame and the trailer body. The rest of the window had a rubber seal or gasket. I want to put the window back in for a trip we are taking in TWO days. Can I use a butyl tape or silicone caulking to reinstall the window even if it is temporary? Or, is there a readily available rubber tape to replace the one on the window frame.

I hope to get a quick answer if possible. Thanks!

Hi Ed, to FiberglassRV, we're glad you're here!

Repeat after me... butyl.... NO silicone on the exterior... ever, ever, ever.

Without a picture not sure what part of the window you are trying to seal. Butyl tape has a huge advantage as a temporary repair.... you can get it off afterwards to do the permanent repair without adding a lot of work to clean off the caulk.

Silicon caulk on a trailer is like a drunken one night stand, easy to get into when your judgment is impaired, embarrassing if anyone finds out. With the potential for long term negative consequences.

Welcome to the forum.

Ed, you're a quick learner. I hope your window has many years of leak-free service and you won't suffer that dang silly-cone disease

The full name of this disease is Silly-cone Trailer Disease, sometimes abbreviated as STD.
