What is this factory or add on?

I am restoring a 2004 Scamp 5th wheel and there is a strip of metal 1/2"x1/8"x5" on the bottom hinge side of the door. My question is why is it there and is it a factory item? On the bottom of the door there is a piece of black plastic that it rubs on when closing the door that makes me think that it is factory. I have attached a picture.

Yes it is factory. Ostensibly, it is a guide to allow the door to shut smoothly. However it is not found on all Scamp doors, Oddly enough not even my 2004 has one and did not come with one. The trailer equivalent of an appendix??

Floyd, I will try it without and if it works I will discard it. Thanks you for taking the time to respond.

Yes, factory. It is there to protect the bottom door seal from damage by curvature of the door. The door has to spring a bit as it opens and closes.
I would keep it.

This part is to help the bottom of the door close smoothly and not catch on the inside of the shell door frame.
If the door has a little too much curvature at the bottom that corner can hang up as it closes and the metal part helps it ride over that area.
