Wheel Balancing

I have always balanced new tires on previous trailers, but is it really necessary on a smaller (17 foot) trailer. The extra cost is about $20 per tire, so would save a few dollars if I did not have to balance. Thanks, Jim

In general, I just like the idea of reducing the vibration into the trailer loosening who know what(nuts, bolts, rivets, thingamajigs). If I kept the tires long enough I'd expect more even wear. But is it necessary? I suppose not. In my opinion.

Ditto on the vibration etc. Just because you don't feel it directly like a vechicle wheel doesn't mean it's a good thihg to allow on the trailer.

Also, I took two Carlisle tires for my m/c trailer in to be balanced and one was too out of round to be balanced I got a replacement and it was only marginally better. That was the end of Carlisle tires for me.

I hate to think what might have happened on the highway if I hadn't gone to get them ballanced.

Uhaul about a year of two ago saw the benefit in it. It is now mandatory for all tires on our equipment to be balanced. I never did it on my VW until the last set and the difference is better ride and tire ware on it. I say spend the cash now save later!

Some folks say you don't NEED to balance trailer wheels/tires mainly because no one (supposedly) is sitting back there going down the parkway anyhow.

I always have and will continue to balance trailer wheels and tires. Don't know where you've been buying tires from (in B.C.) but ALL the shops I deal with offer free mounting AND balancing with new tire purchase.....

Yep, the additional expense is well worth it as i expected.....thanks for the replies. Jim
