where to get lifting mechanism for pop-up - Compact Jr

Hello! Anyone know where to get the lifting mechanism for a Compact Jr pop-up?? Any ideas what I can use as a replacement instead?

I've searched the Archives with no success. I've already posted on the classifieds. THANK YOU!
K

There's no lifting mechanism per se; you lift the top using muscle power. At each corner there's a folding "leg" that supports the top in the "up" position. It seems to be mostly made from drawer slide bits. Take a look at the first couple pics in this thread:

Ah, here's what I was looking for; take a look at post #13:

Thank you Steve! I saw that post a week ago and have been searching for it ever since. I was beginning to think I imagined it. I will wonder where I'm going to find a set...

Well, there's nothing magic about them. As a quick-and-dirty workaround, you could use four short boards with notches cut in the lower ends to support the top.

But I'm guessing that Compact built them out of drawer slides. Go into a good hardware store, show the guy the pictures, and take a look at their drawer slides. Repeat as necessary.

My compact II has similar lifts as that older post. However I am thinking of replacing them with the gas struts or props from a toneau cover or trunk. You can get them in numerous lengths and weight ratings and they can be mounted with ball joints or even sockets as the ends screw on.

Does anyone know how to replace Hunter Jr pop up mechanism with piston-type arms? I saw it somewhere, but didn't catch where to purchase the piston piece.

Pistons

Hi! The pistons don’t do that well as a replacement for the metal slides on
the pop up. I have a 1972 Compact Jr. and the pistons make it difficult to lower it evenly and when it’s in the up position the pistons don’t have enough stability and it wobbles back and forth in any wind.

Elizabeth,

I understand how the piston-type mechanism would make the pop top wobbly. Thank you!

Does anyone have an old pattern I could borrow to use to make a new canvas pop top on my 1972 Hunter Compact Jr.?

Thanks!
